KLRU Partnership

KLRU-TV, Austin PBS is providing resources and equipment to two summer EAC sites, Andrews and Metz Elementary Schools, to provide a rich and entertaining summer experience for their summer STEM program. Even if your child is not enrolled at these sites, we would like to hear from you if you:

- Are concerned about your child's screen time this summer? We know at KLRU that screen time goes way up for kids in the summertime. This can be a wonderful break from school life but too much can in fact be a problem.
- Do you have screen zombies in your house? Here's how to recognize a screen zombie - They literally can not turn their head away from a screen or talk to you when you call their name. They can be of any age - in fact, you may be married to one - or you yourself may be a screen zombie at times!
- Does your child regularly choose screen time over other kinds of play or reading?

If you answered "yes" to all three questions, you may wish to have a Smart Screen Time® KLRU conversation with a staff member. This phone conversation talks about what current research indicates about screen use, and what we can do to create a healthy balance in kids' and adults' lives. In fact, we may be the only media company that wants you to turn us off!
